The power plant, established in 2014 through a joint venture, aimed to provide primary generation capacity at Ruaha Power's first build-own-operate Mini-Grid network generating, distributing, and selling electrical power directly to residential, commercial, and light industrial customers at pre-pay meters. A 32 KW biomass gasifier plant was installed in Kongwa village, improving lighting and electricity services that subsequently aided entrepreneurship amongst rural residents.
