The aim of the project, operating from 2009-2013, was to support Kigali in developing the framework and related infrastructure to make waste management socially and environmentally more sustainable. With the support of UNDP, the project achieved the revitalisation of ecosystems, training of community members to see solid waste as a source of energy, waste management action plans locally and nationally and the creation of sustainable landfills, among other key milestones.
