The Cross Rivers State government have been holding the Calabar Carnival every year to celebrate local culture as one of Africa's biggest street carnival, attracting as much as two million people. In 2019, the Cross Rivers state government made climate change the theme of the carnival, pledging to plant trees in all the local governments in the state, and encouraged his fellow politicians to join in tree planting.
