In 2019, the Gombe state governor launched the Gombe Goes Green Project to tackle the issues of deforestation, desertification and gully erosion significantly impacting the state through planting one million trees annually over a period of four years. The project state has achieved significant milestones in the establishment of eight 20-hectare woodlots in nine local government areas of the state and planted over 20,000 trees along the major roads.
