The Green Wall project was implemented by the federal government project in response to the problem of land degradation and desertification affecting the Northern parts of the country. Under this programme, the federal government partnered with Women Environmental Programme to provide technical support to implement the gender components of the programme. Women were engaged economically to reduce their overdependence on farming which subsequently increases desertification.
