As part of the goal of ensuring universal access to sanitation and eradicating open fecalism by 2030, the national government implemented a project to enhance sanitation services across Mozambique benefiting about 200 000 inhabitants across the country. In Tete, efforts focused on the rehabilitation and expansion of sewage networks, construction of new wastewater treatment plants, construction of small and medium drainage systems and on-site sanitation systems for schools and markets.
