Background

During cyclone Idai hitting Mozambique in 2019, all UN-Habitat standards-built schools survived the most catastrophic effects. This is due to the Ministry of Education and Human Development's collaborative efforts with the UN-Habitat to provide technical assistance for the school reconstruction and retrofitting programme. Almost 1,100 classrooms were rehabilitated or re-built in central Mozambique, part of efforts to build community resilience in ensuring the continuity of education provision.
