In 2013, Eco-Matters constructed a facility on the outskirts of Lilongwe to make and fire building bricks in a more environmentally sustainable manner. The bricks are produced using waste materials, using 80% less fuel than traditional methods before being fed into vertical kilns, producing a more consistent, high quality product. The initiative has fostered community cooperation, establishing centralised, good quality, efficient and environmentally friendly kilns.
