A waste management factory was built by the state, aiming to address the compiling and congestion of waste polluting the city. The initiative has contributed to recycling processes, sustainable energy production methods through eco-friendly charcoals that replace plastic and charcoal, decrease of deforestation rates and the provision of employment through environmental professions. These measures form part of a wider plan to transform Toamasina into an example city in Waste Management.
