An international university collaboration worked with local stakeholders in Kisumu to reduce waste levels, improve livelihoods, and protect the environment. The project has delivered several successes, including the transformation of organic waste into compost, development of fuel briquettes from market waste and the promotion of recovery and recycling of waste through waste-pickers and entrepreneurs. The provision of a formal platform for sharing ideas with officials has facilitated broader policy changes.
