Iraq's Ministry of Electricity launched a first-round tender for 755MW of PV capacity in 2019. The projects spanning across five provinces represent the nation's first attempts to diversify energy. The country has long depended on coal- and gas-fired generation, and infrastructure has taken a hit since the US invasion of Iraq in 2003. These projects are designed to create cost-effective means of adding efficient, clean power to the national grid.
