Background

This community-based waste management strategy incorporated four principles (reduce, reuse, recycle, replant), with socialisation phases and educational activities occuring between 2014 and 2015. The project targeted the establishment of waste banks that expected to change the habits in the community to be more participative and actively engaged in environmental management activities. Citizens are now directly involved in waste bank management, with specific initiatives to encourage women participation.
