The Kottayam Municipality commenced operations to enforce the ban on plastic items. The authorities launched a drive to inspect commercial establishments to make sure the ban is adhered to. To ensure the effectiveness of the programme, authorities launched inspection efforts diverted to separate teams in different zones, spearheaded by health officials that would enforce fines if violations were found. More than 18kgs of plastic were seized from commercial enterprises.
