Eastern Coalfield Limited took measures to address fire, subsidence and rehabilitation in the coal mine area at Ranigunj. This rehabilitation work would be carried out in Durgapur and Asansol Sub Division area. However, it has been shown that the operations did not have the required permissions or environmental clearances. This has left the area impacted by land subsidence, a lack of water source availability, unemployment and an improbable rehabilitation plan.
