Background

Jharkhand launched its State Water Policy in 2011. It laid down approaches for more sustainable, equitable and productive water resources management. It also aimed to create incentives for water users’ organisations and enables creation of new institutional mechanisms to decentralize water resource planning. Whilst the initiative has reduced vulnerability towards natural hazards, further work was required in strengthening the adaptation capacities of institutions and the community and reducing emissions.
