The Japan Drinking Water Project aimed to provide potable water to 55,000 families in Cherthala taluk. The idea was to purify the water from the Muvattupuzha River. The project has achieved setting up 51,188 water connections in 18 village panchayats and Cherthala municipality, whilst setting up 6,630 public taps, with water available 24 hours a day.
