The Government of India (GOI) launched the Swachh Bharat Mission with the vision of ensuring hygiene, waste management and sanitation across the nation. It was implemented by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, with Dhulian one of the targeted cities. The project has helped 100 million rural households and 500 million residents gain access to toilets, across 630,000 villages, whilst changing behaviours around sanitation programming.
