Background

Local self governments in Kerala took the initiative to discourage the use of plastic carry bags and found alternative means to address the issue. Purchased produce such as vegetables were now packed in brown paper covers. As part of the plastic ban, 10 stitching units started to make cloth bags to increase employment opportunities, with smarter plastic alternatives trickling down the region.
