The project involved the construction of a solar plant located in Gardete, covered by the programme for the Exploration of Renewable Energy Sources (Prover) of Guinea-Bissau. Guinea-Bissau relies on fossil fuels and solar has seen limited development, with the exception of rural electrification initiatives. The initiative has the potential to almost triple Guinea Bissau’s power generation capacity as a result, and curb the nation's household reliance on biomass.
