This project involves Ethiopia's attempts to eliminate stockpile of the toxic chemical DDT. Cleaning up the site will prevent chemicals leaking into the environment, while eliminating the risk of the pesticide being sold on the black market. It has also brought the issue of chemical pollution up the political agenda in Ethiopia and Africa, stimulating investment and stronger regulation required to prevent the illness and contamination that toxic chemicals induce.
