The FIP program focused special attention given to wood energy, an important driver of deforestation in this zone. It integrated activities such as improved cook-stoves and alternative energy, afforestation/reforestation activities, community forestry, land tenure, planning and project development activities. The adaptive capacity of a program such as FIP to learn from past mistakes and build on past successes will prove to be a critical factor in transformational change.
