The project involves a government owned mining company (SOKIMO) developing the 11 MW Budana hydroelectric plant through its subsidiary and distributes electricity to the city of Bunia and the town of Mongbwalu. This initiative forms part of the Power Africa Project which aims to increase electricity access by adding 30MW of new generation capacity, and 60 million new connections through grid and off-grid solutions by 2030.
