The DRC lacks a nation-wide electrification plan, however this project aims to increase distribution through a renewed electrification project. The EDC has rehabilitated the 1.5MW Lugundi hydro plant and supplies electricity to 10,000 clients in the city of Tshikapa. The initiative forms part of a wider push for green energy mini-grids that are seen as an opportunity to increase energy access and alleviate poverty.
