Forest wetlands have been recently discovered in DRC. The Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development announced the signing of a new decree for their management in 2017. Since then however, he has reinstated 6,500 km² of logging concessions believed to contain 30 billion tons of carbon. This sends a clear message that the DRC government is abandoning any pretence at reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation.
