The improvement in sanitation of rural areas like Rupganj is difficult due to a lack of sustained use of latrines and hygiene practices. The ‘Sector Development Plan has had a positive effect on activities which directly relate to water quality and availability. Activities focused on treating all urban waste water to clean rivers through zero discharge systems, increasing water security to poor communities and the enhancement of coastal green belts.
